Dr Simon Waddell

Dr Simon Waddell is a molecular microbiologist interested in non-tuberculous mycobacteria (particularly M. abscessus and M. chimaera) alongside M. tuberculosis. He joined Brighton and Sussex Medical School in 2010 after postdoctoral positions at St George’s, University of London and Stanford University, USA. His research uses genome-wide technologies to understand antimicrobial drug action during human disease, to define mycobacterial populations that survive early drug therapy, and to identify the mode of action of novel antimicrobial drugs. His research also explores the interactions between host and pathogen to better explain mycobacterial pathogenicity and to reveal novel treatment strategies.

Reader in Microbial Pathogenesis, Global Health and Infection, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, University of Sussex
